cleaning up the board

we should (well the moderators) clean up the message board
like any threads that have been in any of the places since say feb 2005 that no one else has posted since should be deleted coz it jus takes up too much space and when no one is typing in there it jus dont get used

apart from avas story and story debrief coz they jus have to stay hehe[/glow]

[glow=blue,2,1000]good idea, however, the posts are left there for a reason, due to the fact that most message boards do not have an archiving system. on most boards, posts are usually kept for a year, sometimes longer, before being deleted, as it is good to have them archived in case you need to refer back[/glow]

yes the idea of cleaning up the board is good .. but u do need to srchive & if we dont have archive system we can not clean it up as such

[glow=blue,2,1000]i could make an archive section holding all the archived messages, but that would mean making at least two extra boards (one for General section, one for members), or if we made an archive for each board, then thats 3 boards.

then ava and myself have to go through EVERY message deciding what needs archiving and what can stay, and go about moving all of them to the appropriate archive.

i think they are fine where they are (at least for now)[/glow]

In the messageboard i have ran for six years...I usually left all messages on the board...and once a year on anniversary..i then do what I call house cleaning..unless it was a recent post...I would delete whole board..those that were good or maybe even of a controversity. I archived on my own hard drive bye saving them to a file call old messageboard posts...incase someone refered or questioned something that written..I could find it there.

Also..I dont know if there is a way to do it but..ansem another thing..just like all the threads list in last post back. If the replies could also be as last posted back..then if you have already read message...instead of having to scrool through to get to new posts...the newest posts would be first...backwards.

On the message board I use...the first post in thread..is a link...with all replies under it also links..and if you have read em already..they would be one color and ones you havnt read are another. so it makes it easier..to see what has been read before etc. Im sure Ansem you know what Im talking about.

Of course..those are just suggestions. I never deleted the posts..only on clean up day once a year...and then I always gave everyone warning..that it would be done..so if there was something on board they wanted to save to their own harddrive they could. Then of course..as I said..I would not delete stuff that was still relavant..only old posts..that were no longer being added to.

Just my thoughts.

a) from the way you described it, it sounds like you used the thread system. in that case, i can understand your archiving. however we use the topic system on this board, so there is no real need to "clean up" the pages as such.

b) topics can only be listed in the reverse order they were recieved, so it isnt possible to list them backwards like you said. sorry. [/glow]

I love all the posts that everyone is doing...but instead of all just posting to get stars..in other words just posting to be posting ... why not lets sit down and think of things we can talk about that is cool content. Like ask questions.."HOw do I do this..or What is good some advice for new members on how to make guild better. Something that others can use to make guild better etc. This is really what is messageboard is for.

I love that people are getting active in the board...but we really need to make it more useful..and interesting. Ill admit and Im not putting anyone down. But all the stuff that is supposed to be posted in the off topic board is falling over into the other topics...and somethings that are important get lost or overlooked cos people sometimes dont have time to read everything to get to the important stuff. I hope you understand what Im trying to say.

I feel the off topic topic is where we should limit our chit chat and stuff..and The general Board..should be fore interesting stuff..cos we do get visitors to the board everyday..and maybe they are here to check out guild to join..or maybe they looking for help and guidance in game. They too should feel like they can post questions and ask for help...Just as with the members section which is for members..should be only posts to answer questions..and help other members..along with stuff from admin and leaders that is important to guild. If we can limit the extra stuff..that is just chit chat to off topic..and clean up the rest of the board..it may be more useful to others..and make them want to come to messageboard and post stuff..etc.

Okies..I hope everyone understands what Im trying to say..please dont stop posting ... just kind of move all the chit chat stuff to the off topic board where it belongs

Also..adding this...post new topics as well...dont just keep adding to the posts that already exist..some of them..at least the beginng of them..are months old...and well some of their content is no longer happening..so by keep ing those posts alive...we are also keeping issues and stuff alive is that is long out context of what is now going on.

Once again...I hope i havent said anything to hurt anyones feelings or step on anyones toes that is not my intention..I just want to make the messageboard a better place for everyone to come..guild members and visitors alike.
